Zippy lemon up front overlaid with white flower aromas. Peach rings on the palate and springy grapefruit lacing throughout it. A focused wine, yet brimming with joy.
The 2020 Colombard was harvested nearly a month earlier than in 2019, due to two factors: a consistently hot summer and early autumn, and the outbreak of the Willits fire 20 miles north of Ricetti Vineyard. The heat in Redwood Valley had already pushed the grapes to ripeness by early September, and when the fires broke out the decision to pick became an immediate necessity.
All of the fruit was pressed directly upon arrival at the winery. The juice was racked off gross lees and split between neutral oak barrels and concrete eggs. Over the course of two weeks, the eggs and barrels fermented slowly to dryness. The Colombard in eggs was then combined with the barrels, and all of it was left to age for 5 months, sur lie.
‘amando el sol’ means ‘loving the sun’, an ode to bright golden Colombard fruit that ripens happily in the California heat.
Indigenous yeast fermentation. No added sulfur, no other additions, unfined and unfiltered.
